I entered the workforce in 2000 as an enthusiastic physiotherapist in a UK hospital. I thought I would work in the NHS for my entire career.
Needless to say, that has not been the case!
As a physio, finding out what motivated people to engage in rehabilitation was fascinating. I learnt a lot about how to build trust through listening, and I had a strong desire to use my skills to help others prosper.
I moved to NZ in 2005 and started my first business in 2008. For the first year, it was just me and a laptop and it now employs 8 amazing team members and is still going strong.
I have started, bought and sold health businesses over the last 15 years and have won a string of awards including Supreme Business of the Year in the Taupō Business Awards and Excellence in Business Leadership. I get a real kick out of building great teams to grow purpose-led businesses.
In 2018, I led the Taupō Business Chamber through three huge years of transformation. I was also a trustee for the Taupō District Economic Development Agency for nearly two years. Learning about governance and how board decisions can affect businesses was an eye opener.
As well as running businesses, I have energetically pursued learning. In 2020, I took on a post-grad cert in Leading Change for Good with the Mind Lab, led by education visionary Francis Valentine, and graduated with the first cohort in New Zealand. In 2022, I was one of 8 women to complete the NZ Global Women Entrepreneurs Leadership Course, led by chairperson Theresa Gattung.
Over the last few years, I have come to see that The most meaningful way for me to succeed, is to help others to succeed. I get a huge kick out of seeing companies smash goals and individuals grow in confidence.
